- (Note: This is an excerpt of an email from Melissa Quon-Huber of the Averill Wood Neighborhood Association. She provides an update about T-Mobile's efforts to build a cellphone tower in our residential area.)
T-Mobile’s lawyer has filed or plans to file a law suit over the cell tower SLU denial. As I understand it, the city is not afraid of the law suit but is concerned they will lose.
In lieu of the lawsuit, T-Mobile has proposed this “stealth” tower disguised as a flag pole to address our concerns. We just want to keep you updated on some of our thinking.
So we have a few options to consider….
(1) Ask that the city not concede to T-mobile and fight the lawsuit
- We could take this time to mobilize people for a boycott or letter-writing campaign to T-mobile to show them the word-of-mouth impact on their business
- We could talk with Grand Haven to see if they would pursue other options
(2) Agree to this 125 ft flag pole in the woods and be done
(3) Try to engage T-mobile in a counter proposal, e.g. a smaller pole on the front of their property, instead of in the woods
It’s not yet clear how any of these actions would impact the overall “moratorium” and planning process which is our larger goal – to make sure these cell towers aren’t all over the neighborhood.
Once we get a bit more information together I’ll start distributing this news more broadly.
Let me know if you have any ideas!
Take care,
Melissa
