Averill Woods neighbors rally against cell tower construction

The Averill Woods Neighborhood Association held a news conference and rally yesterday against T-Mobile's plans to build a cell tower in the neighborhood behind housing on Skye Road and Deerfield Avenue.

A public hearing will be held before the Lansing City Council at 7 p.m. tomorrow on the tenth floor of City Hall and all Averill Woods neighbors are invited to participate.

Yesterday's rally was shown on WLNS TV on weekend newscasts.

Great job, especially to Ann and Melissa, in rallying the neighborhood! As we have seen in Colonial Village, sometimes it takes a unique event to spark a movement. I applaud your efforts. Sorry I wasn't at the rally, I was at another neighborhood rally (Hunter's Ridge) Saturday.

I talked a bit about this issue on my website, and after reviewing what I said, I think it still reflects how I feel. I am opposed to the zoning change, and will encourage my council colleagues to deny the permit request.
