T-Mobile getting ready to sue to put cell tower in Averill Woods neighborhood backyard/frontyard

(Note: This is an excerpt of an email from Melissa Quon-Huber of the Averill Wood Neighborhood Association. She provides an update about T-Mobile's efforts to build a cellphone tower in our residential area.)

T-Mobile proposes stealth cellphone tower placement in Lansing's Averill Woods neighborhood

As an alternative to the traditional cellphone tower, T-Mobile has apparently proposed construction of a stealth tower at the same location as first proposed on the Grand Haven Retirement Community site which abuts Skye Road and Deerfield Avenue, according to Melissa Quon-Huber of the Averil Woods Neighborhood Association.

Police and fire radios still have dead spots on Lansing (MI) southwest side

Two of Lansing's at-large City Council members--Carol Woods and Brian Jeffries--gave a status report about police and fire radio dead spots on the southwest side including the Averill Woods neighborhood.

Council member Carol Wood shares info about crime prevention cameras

At last night's--Sep. 27--meeting of the Averill Woods Neighborhood Association, City Council member Carol Woods shared information and her views about the purchase and installation of cameras to fight crime in the city and about the level of police department staffing.

Averill Woods Neighborhood Association working to stop Skye Road cell tower construction

The Averill Woods Neighborhood Association is unanimous in its effort to keep cell phone company, T-Mobile, from building a new cell tower immediately adjacent to the Skye Road residential area.

The proposed tower which requires a special land use permit from the Lansing City Council butts up on to the neighborhood and to an elementary school. Go to the Lansing State Journal this morning for a good citizen discussion of the pro's and con's of the city's purchase of of high definition of street cameras for the purpose of crime fighting. The comments are at the end of the news story.

Averill Woods Neighborhood Association meets Thursday evening, Sep. 27

If you live in the Averill Woods neighborhood, you are invited to attend the next association meeting on Thursday, Sep. 27. It starts at 7 p.m. at Averill Elementary School. At each meeting, a Lansing Police Department officer reports about calls, incidents and issues in the area. In addition, other issues of concern are discussed. Averill Woods Park's new playground equipment has official ribbon-cutting

If you missed it, look in the left column and you'll see photos from last Wednesday's ribbon-cutting for the new playground equipment at Averill Woods Park. It was a festive neighborhood celebration with Mayor Virg Bernero, two city council members--Bill Matt and Derrick Quinney--and many others in attendance.

The new kid-friendly and climbable playground toys were a hit with the large group of youngsters who attended.
