As an alternative to the traditional cellphone tower, T-Mobile has apparently proposed construction of a stealth tower at the same location as first proposed on the Grand Haven Retirement Community site which abuts Skye Road and Deerfield Avenue, according to Melissa Quon-Huber of the Averil Woods Neighborhood Association.

Two of Lansing's at-large City Council members--Carol Woods and Brian Jeffries--gave a status report about police and fire radio dead spots on the southwest side including the Averill Woods neighborhood.

At last night's--Sep. 27--meeting of the Averill Woods Neighborhood Association, City Council member Carol Woods shared information and her views about the purchase and installation of cameras to fight crime in the city and about the level of police department staffing.

The Averill Woods Neighborhood Association is unanimous in its effort to keep cell phone company, T-Mobile, from building a new cell tower immediately adjacent to the Skye Road residential area.

If you live in the Averill Woods neighborhood, you are invited to attend the next association meeting on Thursday, Sep. 27. It starts at 7 p.m. at Averill Elementary School. At each meeting, a Lansing Police Department officer reports about calls, incidents and issues in the area. In addition, other issues of concern are discussed. you'll see photos from last Wednesday's ribbon-cutting for the new playground equipment at Averill Woods Park. It was a festive neighborhood celebration with Mayor Virg Bernero, two city council members--Bill Matt and Derrick Quinney--and many others in attendance.
